Why does this matter on a site devoted to psoriasis you ask?  Because it’s been proven that stress can contribute to exacerbated symptoms of psoriasis.  This on top of the cold (and dry) weather setting in, which can also lead to flare-ups.  So, what can we do about it to try to reduce the inevitable flare-ups?

Relax.

Easy for me to say, huh?  But it’s true.  The majority of stress is pressure or anxiety that you place on yourself.  Some of the best ways to reduce stress are to exercise, eat right, and get enough sleep.  What else can you do?  Try not to sweat the small stuff.  We all have plenty of reasons to be stressed or anxious, let go of the fact that the jerk in the nice SUV cut you off in traffic this morning, it just doesn’t matter.  For more on psoriasis and stress, check out the Mayo Clinic website.

This is very true, my major recent flare-up started when the due date of delivering my thesis project was approaching and as the pressure to meet the deadline and finish the project increased, my condition worsened.

It varies from drug to drug, depending on factors such as the amount of testing that they believe is necessary to how long the Food and Drug Administration takes to review the end product. Since this may not quite be the highest priority, probably on the order of 6 months after the company believes it’s ready.

Wyeth in Ireland? Let me be a test subject, I don’t need IL-22. I hope!

I jest, though I’d love to help and I’m rather smart in the grey matter department.

I’ve had this since I was a kid, though it’s come on a lot on my arms and legs in the past year, I’ve been smoking and drinking and feeling dreadful so I’m guessing that has something to do with it appearing again, however, giving up drinking and smoking is making it worse due to the fact drink now calms me down and I’ve noticed after a hard nights drinking my skin actualy improves. I think this is to do with a lack of moisture in my body and need for water, odd, maybe, though what if the causes are related to water as well as IL-22?

Make anti IL-22? Suck me dry of water?

Interesting ideas though I may be talking abslute rubbish, either way I’m buying a UV light tomorrow and a red plastic sheet to cure my arms and legs.

Has anyone had their Psoriasis symptoms disappear while taking Lyrica (for Fibromyalgia), I have experienced it. But, when I stopped taking Lyrica for almost a month, the symptoms returned. I’m back taking it again, hopefully once these spots heal, I won’t experience outbreaks again.

I had a mild but persistent case of scalp psoriasis. An excellent dermatologist gave me a bag full of topical “Clobex” samples (clobetasol propionate) and instructions to shampoo my hair every day with Neutrogena T-Sal shampoo. In less than two weeks, the itching and flaking were completely gone.

I had put off going to the dermatologist, instead trying to treat myself with over the counter dandruff stuff. Should have gone to the dermatologist in the first place, instead of buying every single dandruff shampoo I could find – which didn’t work.

I think Clobex works because it’s a strong topical steroid.

I was given clobetasol for my scalp and the psoriasis all over the rest of my body. It worked for me, but in the 2 weeks I was told to take it, the psoriasis was not completely gone – and once I stopped taking it in favor of the next medication my dermatologist suggested, Protopic (tacrolimus – an immunosuppressant), it came right back worse than ever.

I don’t personally get the happiness during summer thing. My skin doesn’t get particularly dry in the winter and in the summer, if I get overheated, with my psoriasis my entire body starts to itch, especially my scalp – making me irritable and annoyed.
