Psoriasis Was Originally Considered A Curse From The Gods

Monday, July 5th, 2010

Originally considered a curse from the Gods, cases of Psoriasis have been documented since the days of Greek mythology, just about 2600 years ago. Did you notice the word “myth” in mythology?

However, it took centuries before it was actually identified by Aurelius Celsus, a Roman scholar who referred to Psoriasis as “impeto” the Latin word for “attack”. The Bible makes reference to Psoriasis, but mistakenly calls it leprosy.

For hundreds of years, people who suffered from Psoriasis were ostracized, often forced to ring a warning bell alerting others in their path, and to wander as homeless beggars.Their very appearance was considered unclean – some even suffered the same fate as lepers, including being burnt at the stake in the 14th century.

During the middle Ages, it was thought that all scaling conditions were leprosy. In fact, it wasn’t until the 1700’s that Psoriasis was differentiated from other skin diseases. Psoriasis was recognized as a specific and separate clinical entity in 1808 by Robert Willan who at first called it “lepra” derived from the Greek word “loops” {the epidermis} and “leps” the scale.

Finally in 1840, he renamed the disease Psoriasis – a term derived from the Greek word “psora” meaning “itch”. Amazingly, Psoriasis was a disease that had been misunderstood for more than 2000 years before it was clearly defined and named to what we know it as today.

Ironically, still to this day, the losing battle against Psoriasis continues to be because of old methods of treatments being practiced, when the answer to curing Psoriasis, as well as any other disease is clear. The problem is with the water you drink and your diet… but more specifically because your body is in a overly acidic state, and has been ever since you got the disease in the first place.    http://www.howtocurepsoriasis.com

A Natural Cure For Psoriasis – Are There Home Remedies to Treat Scalp Psoriasis?

Saturday, March 6th, 2010

Psoriasis is a common problem and it is believed up to 7.5 million people in America suffer from this disease. Psoriasis can take many forms but a lot of people suffer from scalp psoriasis.

This can be a very real problem as it can be wrongly perceived to be dandruff by other people causing suffering and embarrassment to those with the disease.

If you suffer from psoriasis then it is no fun at all. The National Psoriasis Foundation in one study in 2008 noted that 58% of sufferers were embarrassed by their condition.

I am a psoriasis sufferer myself and have had scalp psoriasis for over 7 years now. I have been to the doctors and skin specialists and their prescription treatments didn’t really help.

I needed to try something else and someone suggested aloe vera gel. I am glad they did. The method I used was to use fresh leaves from an aloe vera plant. I carefully removed one side of the skin and scraped the inside jelly out.

I then took this gel and put it in a mini food processor and liquefied it. I then took the metal tip off my poultry flavor infuser syringe and sucked up the liquid. Then I got my boyfriend to apply this liquid onto my scalp.

I came up with the syringe method as it made it easier to apply the gel through my hair to the scalp itself. I do this most nights and it has really improved my scalp psoriasis with less flaking and itching.

The best though is a new treatment I have found called Dermasis which I found by typing http://natural-cure-psoriasis.blogspot.com/

natural cure psoriasis  into Google.

I was really amazed by the results and after using the product for a week my skin had nice pinkish color to it and I felt and looked great.

Avoid This Psoriasis Remedy

Many people who are looking for a psoriasis remedy, and feel they have tried everything else, have turned to methotrexate. This is a drug that can either be taken orally or through injection.

Methotrexate has been very effective in treating a variety of conditions, and was originally created to treat certain types of cancer in the 1940’s. It was in 1960 when it was realized that small doses of this drug were effective in treating severe psoriasis.

The people who normally have good results with this drug have psoriasis that covers a minimum of thirty percent of their body. It is extreme cases of psoriasis that have deep lesions surrounded by red patches that this drug is normally prescribed for.

Unfortunately, there is a big down side to using this type of medication. Methotrexate is a very toxic drug, even if it is only being taken in small doses. If you are on this medication, you should be very closely monitored by a medical professional. Some of the side effects are nausea, loss of appetite, hair loss, fatigue, insomnia, and even a reduction in your white blood cell count. This would make you very susceptible to infections.

Some of the more uncommon side effects are sun sensitivity, headaches, acne, painful urination, blurred vision, fever, convulsions, low sperm count, bloody urine, and breathing problems.

Methotrexate is a very dangerous drug to take, so before you try it make sure that you exhaust all of your other options. There are many different treatment options that are natural, such as the psoriasis remedy called Revitol Dermasis, which can help you rid of your psoriasis without having to take any dangerous drugs into your body. Methotrexate can help you, but with that list of side effects it may not be worth it.
